AEROPRESS
| Rich | Crisp | Clean |
A unique and much-celebrated brew method, the Aeropress is essentially a flash-brew immersion method for coffee that directly combines a much stronger ratio of coffee:water, then forces it through a fine filter. Though it lacks the necessary pressure to create true espresso, imagine if the French Press and lever espresso had a lovechild. It is very popular with niche coffee enthusiasts and is great for travel and camping due to its compact size and durability. This recipe uses the Inverted Aeropress Method, so no water escapes through the filter until after the coffee has been well-extracted.
- Hot Water Vessel (kettle or heat-safe pitcher)
1:15 invert and plunge
Step 1.) Heat the water to between 200-205 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the filter in the Aeropress cap and saturate with hot water, taking care to not burn your hands.
Step 2.) Press the plunger into the main cylinder of the Aeropress until it forms a seal, then turn upside down.
Step 3.) Weigh 15 grams of whole bean coffee and grind on Fine / Medium-Fine. Pour grounds inside the cylinder, then place entire Aeropress setup on kitchen scale and tare.
Step 5.) Wait 20 seconds, stir again, then attach the cap with the pre-wet filter and fasten into place.
Step 6.) When the stopwatch reads 1:15, turn the Aeropress right-side-up and place on top of mug.
Step 7.) Press down firmly and steadily on the plunger until you hear a hissing sound. Remove Aeropress from mug.
Step 8.) Enjoy!
